Oktatás célja
Cognitive Linguistics as a discipline primarily focuses on meaning with all its aspects relevant to human communication, thus, it has been applied to research in many different ways. The number of its possible applications in linguistic research is continuously growing. The aim of this course is to make students familiar with some of the most important questions raised by Cognitive Linguistics and their social relevance.
Tantárgy tartalma
The course aims to introduce the basic theories of Cognitive Linguistics to the students. The course is divided into three parts along with three main areas of Cognitive Linguistic theory: 1) categories and prototypes; 2) frames; and 3) conceptual metonymy and metaphor. Students are required not only to understand the core notions of Cognitive Linguistics, but are also encouraged to apply these notions to various linguistic and non-linguistic phenomena. It enables them to understand the ways of human meaning-making.
Számonkérés és értékelés
Final seminar grade consists of four components 1) regular homework, 2) active participation in the discussion by raising relevant questions and giving intelligent comments on the topic, 3) being a discussion leader and 4) submitting a research essay.
