- This course is designed to provide students with an insight into the various ethnic minorities that make up American society. The objective is to examine the unique composition of American society by discussing the characteristics of various ethnic groups.
- Tantárgy tartalma
- Students will learn about the ethnic and racial diversity of American society, the historical background of each group, their characteristics, and their social problems. This course focuses on the experiences of African Americans, Asian Americans, Latino(a)s, Native Americans, Arab Americans, and other racialized peoples in the United States. The course will help students develop their critical thinking by analyzing various texts and movies.
- Számonkérés és értékelés
- Regular attendance (only three absences are tolerated; coming to class unprepared equals an absence); active class participation; completion of the weekly homework assignments and the readings/movies on their due dates; a 20-minute ppt presentation accompanied by a handout; a written final exam; and proper classroom decorum and civility. Assessment: In-class participation and completion of the assignments: 20%; ppt presentation + handout: 40%; written final exam: 40%.
