- The class aims to address the interconnectedness of British heritage sites and cinema with possible educational purposes with inter- and transdisciplinary methods.
- Course content
- The role of the film industry and cinema can be important and multifunctional in addressing and promoting sustainability. Few people, even including academics, would know that Blockbuster films with budgets of over $70 million produce an average of 2,840 ton of CO2 per production (it takes 3,700 acres of forest to absorb the equivalent in a year). On the one hand, raising awareness and promoting the green film production among future generations of intellectuals and academics and its new rating system can directly contribute to promoting sustainability in each walk of life and to reducing our eco footprint. Films, on the other hand, as an art form can help indirectly too by educating and entertaining, by raising awareness both in the conservation and better exploitation of heritage sites and in climate and social issues, sustainability and can help build better and greener communities and popularise the green economy, sustainable cities, reduce social inequality and can help contribute to climate adaptation. The class will use inter- and transdisciplinary methods including theoretical and visual frameworks,will invite experts including human ecology, science and film scholars.
- Assessment method
- The final grade will be based on the results of 3 grades: an end-of-term test, plus a midterm presentation and an individual task (individually discussed options like campaign-interviews/reports, film review/research paper/essay or editing a short promo film)
