Oktatás célja
The goal of the course and ability to acquire Continuing the work of the methodology seminar of the previous semester the goal of the course to prepare the students for their fieldwork. During the semester each student will be expected to give a presentation about the analysis of the interview conducted in the previous semester and one more presentation which is related to this semester's topic: analysing modern myths With the help of these practises and the related discussions students will be able to use the approach and interpretive skills of cultural anthropology to understand and analyze social and cultural questions from the perspective of their required fieldwork experiences.

Detailed syllabus 1. Introduction. Discussion of the tasks and goals of the semester Discussing the requirements, assessment methods and assignments for the course. 2-5. Conducting Interviews Students’ presentations/Conducting an interview or interviews. Each presentation should include the following viewpoints and seek answers to the questions below. Viewpoints/questions for the interview presentation: - Who was the interview partner? How does he or she connected to your future research? - What were your questions? Why did you ask these specific questions? - Which interview techniques did you apply? - Circumstances of the interview (environment, distractions, etc.) Short summary of the interview - How do you evaluate the interview? Afterthoughts, what would you change if you could? Advantages and mistakes. - How do you interpret the results? Evaluation of the interview from the aspect of your future research. - New thoughts/revelations/inspirations from interview making after the interview 6-7. Analysis of a myth/mythological narrative - lectures by the professors on the cultural anthropological meanings of modern myths and their research methodology Related Readings: Bowie,Fiona: Myth. 2006. Myths of individuality in modernity "Be happy!". The happiness and eternity of the moment in modern myths "Be beautiful!"  Modern myths of Beauty "Break on through the other side!" Mythical art, art and myth in modernity  "You can do it!". Myths of wealth and social mobility "We can do it!" Modern myths of politics and nationalism The general topics proposed above should be related to the student's ongoing or planned thesis research. Conditions of the course completion 1, Regular class attendance is a course requirement. 2, The students will be expected to give two presentations individually about: conducting an interview or interviews analysis of a myth/mythological narrative These analyses must connect to the student’s present or planned fieldwork!
