- Oktatás célja
- Within the disciplinary framework of the sociology of culture, the focus of this course will be on the sociology of art. It deals with the major themes of the field from a historical perspective. Since the sociology of art has neither a particular institution as an object of study, nor a specific methodology, its field of research can be defined variously. The course focuses on the ways in which art has been problematized in the history of sociological thinking. By doing so, it inevitably deals with the questions of sociology’s disciplinary boundaries.
- Tantárgy tartalma
- The sociological approach of art interprets works of art as forms, reflections and sometimes critiques of social practices. Besides discussing the basic theoretical framework of sociology of art and its changes, a special attention will be given to the sociological interpretation of the concepts of the artist, work of art, art institutions and the audience, moreover to the complex relationship of these notions.
- Számonkérés és értékelés
- During the semester students should actively participate in the class, which includes both the reading of texts and an engagement in the discussions. Students are also required to write a mid-term and a final exam.
