- The goal of the subject is to get students acquainted with the goal of descriptive statistics and the tools can be used to display and summarize data. Hence, the course stresses the importance of statistical mindset and the proper usage of statistical tools how to interpret the results of various statistical analyses and how to effectively report their results providing a structured mindset to process data with a special emphasis on how these data could be used to support managerial decisions.

- Population and sample, sampling error, random sampling techniques Measurement scales Displaying and processing qualitative variables Contingency tables, conditional distributions Displaying quantitative variables, empirical CDF and PDF, boxplot Measures of central tendency: arithmetic, geometric mean, mode, median, quantiles, “5-number summary” Measures of variation: range, interquartile range, sample standard deviation Standardization Outlier detection Normal distribution
