- One purpose of the course is to provide the skills and knowledge necessary for students to analyse, interpret and criticise accounting information. The objective of the module is to build on the knowledge acquired during Accounting I-II. Second, the module also includes an introduction to auditing. The function and procedures are presented, and the different types of audit reports are explained. Finally, the third topic of the course is an introduction to controlling. The management functions and the importance of budgeting are discussed. The tools and usefulness of performance reporting and budgetary control are also covered. Prerequisites: the understanding of financial statements (statement of profit and loss, statement of financial position, the statement of cash flow), basic concepts of accounting Intended Learning Outcomes: On successful completion of this course, students should be able to: demonstrate a systematic understanding of Financial and Management Accounts and Reports, prepare calculations and comment in detail on financial statements data. critically show the limitations of accounting information. choose relevant financial information for internal decision making. - Key topics: Financial analysis: Concept, usefulness for decision-makers Tools (horizontal, vertical analysis, ratio analysis): calculations and wider interpretations Use of the cash-flow statements for financial analysis 2. External auditing: Objectives of auditing, usefulness for stakeholders Corporate governance, fraudulent financial reporting The process of auditing (planning, executing - procedures, audit reports) 3. Essentials of controlling: Concept, usefulness, role in businesses The role of budgeting, and types of budgets Performance reporting and budgetary control.
