Oktatás célja
This subject models real life situaton when a cartographer receives a task from a client. Students learn to elaborate a given cartographic-geoinformatic task from blank page to map publishing.
Tantárgy tartalma
Students collect data in a given topic and elaborate the outline of the thematic map series as pages of a hypothetical economic atlas. Students prepare maps in two two given topics, and write two essays. Work is independent but guided. It contains digitizing (vectorizing) background maps, data collecting, data analysis, data visualizing and creating layouts. Maps should provide the widest and the most complex image of each topic, therefore it is important to gather as many kinds of data as possible and to use optimal visualizing methods.
Számonkérés és értékelés
Each student digitizes  one background map of Europe and one (chosen) country map. These are evaluated. Students prepare one thematic map of Europe and one thematic country map of the first topic, AND one thematic map of Europe, one thematic country map of the second topic. So a total of two background maps and four maps (2 maps of Europe and 2 country maps) have to be delivered These four maps are also evaluated. Student write two (3-5 page long) descriptive, essay-type papers on the topics. These are evaluated, too. At the end of the semester, final note on the subject is calculated by the arithmetic average of the above mentionned eight notes.
