- The aim of the course is to present the social structure, political role, integration into court life, and living conditions of the nobility, a dominant group in the early modern Hungarian Kingdom. All this is presented in the context of the history of the Habsburg Monarchy and the Hungarian Kingdom.
- Course content
- The seminar examines the role played by the high nobility and nobility in the life of the early modern Kingdom of Hungary. It presents the development of the role of the nobility in the early modern period, its social stratification, and its political and social involvement. It emphasizes the integration of the Hungarian high nobility into the ruling elite of the Habsburg Monarchy, the role of the nobility in the counties, the importance of education and upbringing in the development of noble careers, and the role of religion in the formation of noble identity. The seminar language is German.
- Assessment method
- Practice grade. The basic frame for evaluating student performance of the course determined by the university’s code of conduct. According to this document, the instructor can determine the means of evaluation of the course depending on the nature of the field of knowledge and skills presented at the course. A practice grade usually takes the form of an evaluation based on written and/or presented works related to the student’s work at a seminar individually or as a member of a student team.
