- To teach the theory and practice of the Database Management Systems. Knowledge: Knows how to build a library database. Is familiar how to create the information needed. Skills: Is able to create databases. Is able to run databases . Attitudes: The student will proceed all the steps of creating a database: preliminary examination and planning, detailed planning, human tasks and programs, development, testing, putting in function, running and supervising. The student will use different operations: searching, exporting, importing Autonomy and responsibility: Takes responsibility for the texts produced in connection with his/her work and is aware of the consequences of public communication.
- Course content
- The notion of the database, the principles of system-oriented thinking and their application in practical life. Modelling means. Bases of relational databases. Steps of creating a database: preliminary examination and planning, detailed planning, human tasks and programs, development, testing, putting in function, running and supervising. Data modelling, data structures and correlations in library work. Types of database-handling systems, general knowledge. Operations: searching, exporting, importing. Additional possibilities: documentation, protection, syncronization, data-flow between different programs.
- Assessment method
- Essay - Min. 10 pages with 20 sources in printing and electronic form. Please cite the source according to the bibliographic standards (on the bottom of page). Presenting essay on the presentation day. Lecture should be about 20 minutes long.
