Learning outcomes
This course is aimed at helping students develop oral communication skills through presentations. Emphasis is placed on the oral use of academic language and developing useful and effective research skills. The physical characteristics of presenters will also be discussed, i.e. tone of voice, body language, use of notes and power point slides.
Course content
The basics of oral communication skills for an academic audience will be discussed and practiced. The structure of an academic presentation along with the language that should be used will be evaluated. The use of power point and handouts will be discussed as well.
Assessment method
Three presentations will be evaluated throughout the semester.
