- The course is designed to familiarise students with various modes of film adaptations, and to help students acquire interpretative strategies concerning both print and non-print (media) texts, more specifically, Shakespeare on page and screen.
- Course content
- Close reading of the plays alongside their film adaptations will be supported by discussions of literary criticism, film reviews and visual representations in the fine arts, and whenever possible, stage productions as well. An expected output of the course is a short clip/shooting script/live performance of a Shakespearean scene either produced individually or done as pair/group work.
- Assessment method
- regular attendance; set texts (as listed in weekly syllabus) read in full and in English for the appropriate seminars; copies of set texts in English brought in for the appropriate seminars; two presentations; active in-class participation in discussions as well as lively, interactive presentation of topics using visuals are encouraged; end-term assignment: a short clip/ shooting script/ live performance.
