- Output-based competence description of the educational objective A) Knowledge Have a working knowledge of written mediation between French and Hungarian. Knowledge of the techniques, methods of analysis and interpretation of translation from a foreign language into a mother tongue (version) and from a mother tongue into a foreign language (thème). Knowledge of basic French grammatical terminology. Use problem-solving methods in the field. Knowledge of the characteristics and data of French linguistic phenomena. B) Competences Understands, interprets, organises and uses effectively, orally and in writing, the grammatical structures and terminology acquired. Ability to understand, interpret and translate texts at level B2+ in the target language with correct grammatical accuracy. Can express himself/herself orally and in writing in a clear and correct manner. Ability to produce detailed, long, coherent texts on a wide range of topics, particularly in the field of francophone culture, using correct French. C) Attitudes An interest in French grammar and vocabulary. Interest in translation techniques and translation problems between the two languages. Tends to speak and write with correct grammatical correctness. Constantly develops grammatical and lexical competence, general and specialised linguistic knowledge, using the latest information and communication tools. A contrastive approach to language learning. Open to new linguistic phenomena.
- Course content
- Translation from Hungarian into French (theme) of standardised texts (with the exact level of difficulty and length required for the given level) published in the state-recognised language examination centre of ELTE ITK (Origó Nyelvvizsgszer), and texts on French society and customs (Mauchamp, N.: Les Français. Mentalités et comportements. CLE International, Paris, 1998) from French into Hungarian (version), analysis of grammatical and lexical difficulties, practice of important sentence structures, examination and comparison of students' translations, reflection on linguistic phenomena in the texts. ? Students may choose to do one of the following small lectures at least once during the semester: A) presentation/broadcast of a current news clip from a French-language news programme on their own computer; detailed explanation of the theme and vocabulary of the clip/report (each student will provide their own technical background) or B) searching for a current news article in French from the written press on the World Wide Web at home.
- Assessment method
- Method and dates of the report 25-30 minute papers are expected, indicating the exact material to be covered, for a total of 4 papers during the semester. In the document "L'évaluation des interrogations écrites" (see below), we have described in detail the tasks included in the essay, the method of evaluation and the marks to be awarded. Only texts previously studied in detail in class and translations checked together will be included in the essay! The following is a one-sentence summary of the written and oral exercises: w Checking the grammatical structure and vocabulary (10 phrases) of the translation texts and the spelling of certain sentences: word and phrase test, pen-and-ink test. w Short translation exercises from Hungarian into French and from French into Hungarian based on the texts discussed, focusing on language difficulties. w In addition to the essays, at least 1 oral presentation of an extract from an article/news item in French of your choice. This is compulsory for everyone. The 5 marks obtained on the basis of the 4 essays and the short presentation of the extract from the article/news item will be the semester mark.
