- The aim of the course is to develop students’ reading comprehension in Hungarian, as well as to familiarize them with the language and vocabulary of the mass communication culture, which is of primary importance nowadays. During the semester, students are exposed to authentic audio-visual materials of various genres (news broadcast, interview, documentary, commercial, etc.) and newspaper articles, in order to facilitate their deeper understanding of the Hungarian media language. The class includes activities about the internet, which enable students to learn the expressions connected to this topic. Great emphasis is placed on the methodologically appropriate analysis and interpretation of texts. (A) Knowledge: · Familiarity with twith the most important vocabulary of Hungarian mass communication culture features and terms of Hungarian media language. · Know the key correlations of the mass communication culture and its characteristics, as well as the related terminology. · Knowledge of Hungarian language at a level necessary to the student’s area of expertise. (B) Skills · Able to examine and interpret the language of Hungarian mass communication culture. · Able to understand literature in connection with the course and forms an independent opinion about the problems raisings of the literature. · Able to apply the related terminology. · Capability of selecting the approppriate media science methods for answering the various problems of the student’s field of study. (C) Attitudes · Aim for the formation of an independent opinion based on the acquired knowledge · Interested in acquiring new insights based on the acquired knowledge, with the help of the acquired skills. · Place their continuous personal learning in the context of serving the public good. · The student is open-minded towards Hungarian and other cultural communities. (D) Autonomy and responsibility · Capable of autonomous processing of complex information, both orally and in writing. · Take responsibility for their own work. · Responsibly participate in formulating and justifying professional views.
- Course content
- Language and vocabulary of the mass communication culture related to various genres (news broadcast, interview, documentary, commercial, etc.) and newspaper articles.
- Assessment method
- Continuous evaluation of communication: classroom-work: 30%; homework during the semester: 30%; oral presentation at the end of the semester: 40%. The use and application of AI is included in the learning and teaching process. The students’ awareness of the MI’s usage are also developed within the classroom, together with the necessary competencies. AI is present in both classroom and homework to support skill development. Its use is also recommended for language learning. It is also allowed in the preparation of the end-of-semester presentation.
