- Learning outcomes
- During the course, students will read and analyse literary texts from a range of genres (poetry, folktales, short stories), with particular attention paid to genre conventions, authorial style and the cultural and historical contexts of the works. Students will also become familiar with key methods of textual interpretation and analysis, and expand their literary vocabulary, thereby enabling them to apply their knowledge independently and to interpret other Hungarian literary texts in a comparative manner. (A) Knowledge: · Familiarity with the most important features and terms of Hungarian literature. · Know the key correlations and theories of the Hungarian literature, as well as the related terminology. · Based on the context able to understand and analyze literary works. · Knowledge of Hungarian language at a level necessary to the student’s area of expertise. (B) Skills: · Capable of carrying out an elementary analysis of the Hungarian literary features in intercultural contexts and to synthetically describe and adequately evaluate correlations. · Able to apply the related terminology. · Able to plan and organise their own autonomous learning and to use the widest range of available sources for that purpose. (C) Attitudes: · It authentically represents the role of Hungarian literature in the world and its relationship with it. · Open-minded towards Hungarian and other cultural communities. · Aim for self-education as a means of attaining professional objectives. · Strive for cooperation with others whenever possible in problem solving. · Represents the multifaceted nature of Hungarian and European identity in regards linguistic, religious, societal, historical and present aspects. (D) Autonomy and responsibility: · Capable of thinking over independently the comprehensive, fundamental questions of the Hungarian literature and of elaborating them by using given sources. · Responsibly participate in formulating and justifying professional views. · Work autonomously, subjecting their activities to critical review and ongoing correction.
- Course content
- The course content is designed to present the distinctive features of Hungarian literature, with particular attention to the cultural and historical background of the works. In interpreting the texts, cultural, social and historical contexts are foregrounded, while the exploration of genre-specific and stylistic characteristics is emphasised. The course also includes an introduction to the fundamentals of literary history and literary concepts, which provide the framework for textual analysis. In addition, a key aim is to develop critical thinking: the course offers opportunities for forming and expressing opinions, constructing arguments, and engaging in courteous, reflective dialogue, including understanding and responding constructively to differing viewpoints.
- Assessment method
- Continuous evaluation of oral communication: classroom-work: 30%. homework during the semester: 30%. oral end-of-semester test and/or presentation: 40%. The use and application of AI is included in the learning and teaching process. The students’ awareness of the AI’s usage are also developed within the classroom, together with the necessary competencies. AI is present in both classroom and homework to support skill development. Its use is also recommended for language learning.
