Oktatás célja
Knowledge: The student is familiar with the outstanding authors, works and periods of 20-21th century world literature, with special attention to modernism and postmodernism. The student can identify the most important genres of the studied period and is able to analyze the main poetic features of the examined works of art. Skills: The student can identify the global literary tendencies and can understand the most important historical and poetic phenomena of national, regional and world literature. Studying the outstanding works of world literature, the student can characterize the main periods and literary trends in the 20th century. He/she can recognize the importance of translations, as well as the cultural-communicative potential of reading literary texts in original languages. Attitudes: The student is committed to respect the linguistic, religious and social variety of European culture, as well as to recognize the historical and contemporary diversity of Western and non-Western cultural identities. The student is open towards other foreign cultures and is ready to understand foreign cultural communities. Autonomy, responsibility: The student feels responsibility for the preservation of cultural diversity and recognizes the importance of cross-cultural agencies. By studying various works of world literature, student can acquire personal responsibility and openness toward ethical issues.
Tantárgy tartalma
The lectures focus on the most important periods, authors and texts of European and American world literature in the 20-21th century. The course pays special attention to modernism and postmodernism, the cultural-philosophical contexts, the peculiarities of national and regional literatures, as well as to the historical approaches of their genre and traditions. The student is be able to perceive the broadest literary-historical contexts. The student is able to compare the most peculiar literary phenomena of national literatures with each other on an elementary level. The student is able to recognize the similarities and differences between Hungarian and European literary tendencies.
