- The aim of the subject is to create greater cohesion between different groups of students and between teachers and students; to embed Dutch studies more deeply in the context of other departments within the Humanities; to open up the course to other subjects and to make Dutch studies more interdisciplinary. During the course, invited speakers, researchers and teachers from other departments, universities and research institutions present their own research on topics related to Dutch Studies. Knowledge: Knows the Dutch language cultures, their similarities and differences, characteristic intellectual and artistic trends, forms of appearance, main works. Skills: Ability to apply scientific methods and procedures, to recognize the connections, overlaps and interactions between different fields of knowledge, to achieve the integration of the subject. Ability to create and mediate connections between concepts, theories and facts in the fields of science relevant to the Dutch language and culture. Has languages skills on at least C1 level and intercultural communicative competencies. He/she is able to use the Dutch language fluently, correctly, confidently, in the current context. Ability to express himself/ herself in his / her own field of teaching both orally and in writing. Ability to apply his / her knowledge of Dutch-speaking cultures to himself / herself and his / her students in an effective, motivating way. Ability to mediate between cultures and develop intercultural competence. Ability to review and interpret literary works, other manifestations of the target language culture, the literature on them, and to place them in literary and cultural trends. Ability to search for, review and interpret the literature related to a specific research topic within his/her field of professional interest, to plan and implement his / her own professional development, to reflect on his / her classroom and other experiences, to develop professionally and linguistically continuously. Ability to search for, receive and use authentic sources and texts. Attitudes: Open to real communication and the dissemination of general thinking. Willing to know, accept and communicate professional goals. Seeks cooperation in problem-solving whenever possible. Autonomy and responsibility: Ability to think independently. Ability open attitude to Dutch culture and language. Ability to use the acquired skills creatively. Is willing to develop skills beyond the compulsory curriculum.
- Course content
- Each week, an invited speaker gives a lecture on a specific topic related to the Dutch language, culture and literature, or other fields related to Dutch Studies. Each week, students read the assignment(s) and formulate two relevant questions.
- Assessment method
- At the end of the semester, students are tested on the material of the lectures and reading assignments with a written exam (choice of three essay questions).
