Learning outcomes
The course is the fourth language practice course and elaborates on the skills acquired in language practice 1, 2 and 3 . The aim is to reach Level B1+/B2 for oral and writing skills. B2 for reading comprehension. Knowledge: Intermediate to advanced knowledge of the rules of Dutch language (grammar, vocabulary). Intermediate to advanced knowledge of the varieties of the Dutch languages and their differences. Intermediate to advanced knowledge of the culture, geography and society of the areas where Dutch is a mother tongue. Language proficiency to read, write and speak on an intermediate level about a variety of topics. Knowledge of conventions of letter writing and academic writing. Knowledge of the theories of different forms of more advanced communication: discussion, debate. Skills: Ability to communicate about social and cultural topics on a an intermediate to advanced level. Ability to improve the knowledge and to apply different methods of knowledge acquisition and self-improvement as well as the latest information and communication technologies. Recognise the relationship between personal development and serving the public good. Ability to apply the procedures and main theories as well as the related terminology to carry out tasks. Ability to plan and organise own autonomous learning and to use a wide range of available sources for that purpose. Attitudes: Open to genuinely communicate and disseminate the general way of thinking. Willing to get acquainted with, accept and genuinely communicate the professional objectives. Strive for cooperation whenever possible in problem solving and group assignments. Autonomy and responsibility Capable of thinking independently. Open attitude to the Dutch and the language. Creative use of acquired skills. Willingness to develop skills beyond the compulsory study material.
Course content
Grammar and vocabulary exercises, listening, reading and writing tasks Lessons on acquiring knowledge about culture, social issues, politics, literature in the various Dutch language areas Linguistics Weekly written tasks on topics covered during the seminars Presentation techniques Presentations on a variety of topics Reading and presenting newspaper articles
Assessment method
Two written tests, 1 presentation, 1 oral exam.
