Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to acquaint students with effective presentation techniques, argumentation techniques and a culture of debate. Another goal is for students to learn to apply the acquired theoretical knowledge. Knowledge: Is familiar with the criteria of effective presentations and the required presentation techniques. Knows effective debate techniques. Ability to express his / her opinion and views grammatically correctly, in a nuanced way, and to support these with arguments, both in writing and orally. Recognizes the link between personal development and the service of the common good. Skills: Can express herself both orally and in writing, Ability to apply his / her knowledge of Dutch cultures to himself / herself and his / her students in an effective, motivating way for language teaching Ability to mediate between cultures and develop intercultural competence Attitude: Strives to develop his/her self-knowledge and unique personality, and to this end is open to the use of environmental feedback. He/she monitors the impact of his/her activities on others, reflects on these, and continuously improves its professional skills. Is characterized by co-operation and responsibility in relation to his / her profession, field of expertise and their representatives. Course content
This course focuses on speaking, reading and writing skills. Students are introduced to presentation techniques and become aware of the choices that have to be made while preparing effective presentations. In addition to monological speaking, dialogic speaking is also in focus during the debating lessons. The argumentation techniques acquired are also used for writing persuasive texts.
Assessment method
one oral presentation (20%) a PowerPoint document including a bibliography(10%) one written self-evaluation (5%) assignments (bibliography, argument sheet, worksheet refuting arguments) (15%) one written test (50%)
