- Subject name: Specialisation Seminar 3 Subject code: BBN-NED 17-751/ BBI-NED 17-751N/BBN-NED 15-751 Subject supervisor: Martine Bijvoet Academic degree of the subject supervisor: – Subject leader accreditation status: Subject goal: The specialisation seminar course builds on the business language 1 course, focusing on the development of Dutch language skills as well as preparation for the state exam. During the course the emphasis is on practicing the different skills (especially speaking, reading and writing skills) and repeating the grammatical material from the previous courses. In addition, systematic attention is paid to the expansion of vocabulary through the skills file. Learning Objectives Review and apply the grammar of Dutch at Level. Practicing the structure of practical texts (letters, reviews). Advancing oral language usage. Good knowledge of authentic Dutch culture. Reading texts at CEFR level B2/C1. The student expands his vocabulary. Contents: Advanced knowledge of grammar and vocabulary. Ability to assimilate given literature Reading and presentation of newspaper articles Writing exercises on various topics Oral exercises, presentations Preparation for the final oral examen Examination and requirements for passing: Maximum of 9 missed classes per semester. Have completed all tests and presenatations A complete skills file. Credits will be awarded if a passing grade is scored on average for all components. De students have to do 8 presentations and write 5 texts that count towards the final grade. The skills file is a form of self-study consisting of writing and oral assignments. These must always be completed by the date set for them; texts may not be handed in later. Handing in this file is a prerequisite for taking the final exam. Also, the basis for the speaking lessons is formed by assignments or themes from the skills file or related themes. The assessment of the speaking and writing tests is done by means of an assessment form. The aim is to deepen the knowledge already acquired in a given field, and to develop the ability to apply the acquired theoretical knowledge in practice. With the help of the topics covered, students will be able to integrate cultural, literary, and linguistic knowledge into their teaching, and will be open to learning new approaches. The student is committed to become intercultural mediator, facilitator during the teaching process. Knowledge: Knows the recent results of linguistic and literary research and cultural history, their methodology. Knowledge of literature and media studies: knowledge of the literature and media culture of Dutch-speaking countries. Cultural knowledge: knowledge of the culture of the Dutch-speaking countries in terms of their history, geography, society and art. Skills: Able to comprehensively review and interpret literary works, other manifestations of the target language culture, the literature on them, and place them in literary and cultural trends. Ability to express himself / herself in both his / her own teaching and writing. Ability to apply his / her knowledge of Dutch-speaking cultures to himself / herself and his / her students in an effective, motivating way for language teaching. - Course content
- The content of the course varies and is given by the department's lecturers in their own current research areas on variable topics of cultural history, literature, and linguistics. The practical application of the acquired theoretical knowledge is facilitated by individual and group assignments to be performed on a weekly basis.
