- a) Knowledge: The students know the basic terminology and the methods regarding to the spatial turn in the cultural studies. They know the turning points in the history of Central Europe and the changes in the status of the German-language media. b) Skills: The students are able to apply comparative aspects in the interpretation of media, they are able to analyse the historical and local context of cultural phenomena. c) Attitudes: The students are open to interpreting problems related to the subject areas of interculturality. They understand and accept that cultural phenomena are historically and socially determined and variable. d) Autonomy and responsibility: The students can independently recognise the functioning of the different genres of media. They are aware of the actual social relevance of the topic.
- Course content
- The lecture examines regional varieties of German culture in diachronic and synchronic perspective, it covers local, regional and national concepts of space, representations of modern cities, issues of multilingualism, cultural transfer and migration in combination with media that played a decisive role in forming and distributing those spatial concepts.
