- knowledge: A deeper knowledge of cultural and intellectual history, the notions of modern and contermporary ages, sensibility for historical problems, critical reading of historical sources, competence of understanding of professional texts. Have a usable language knowledge of at least B2+ level. skills: Development of critical thinking, acquisition of methods of social sciences. Able to communicate national culture in the target language. Able to mediate between cultures and to develop intercultural competence. attitude: Improving of political-social sensibility. Improving the culture of debate (in a foreign language) and of the cooperation with fellows. autonomy and responsibility: Open towards social problems. Integrates the acquired methods and pieces of information in his or her individual opinion.
- Course content
- During this course students will learn about the most important historcal and cultural phenomena of 17th and 18th century Italy; the formation of the Italian nation state (1815-1860), and the history of the unified Italy between 1861 and 1922. Besides the general tendencies, we put special emphasis on the issues of elite and popular culture, the ideological history of the Risorgimento movement and modern political ideologies (marxism, liberalism, nationalism, fascism).
