Learning outcomes
knowledge: the presentation of the basic questions of syntactic analysis. Know the rules and registers of spoken and written Italian, and able to apply them effectively according to the actual linguistic context. skills: the students will be able to understand the terminology of modern linguistics and the characteristics of the syntactic system (which means the development of their systematizing skills); they will be more conscious of the linguistic devices while using the language, and also their interrelation recognizing skill will get developed. Able to use Italian fluently, correctly, confidently and according to the actual linguistic context. attitude: the students will be able to reflect on and choose between the various methodological approaches autonomy and responsibility: the students will use consciensciously the methods required by their special fields, and accept the different methodological characteristics of other scientific fields
Course content
After the presentation of the aims, basic concepts, main methods of syntax and the differences between the traditional description of languages and modern syntax, we analyze simple and complex sentences taken from the works of contemporary writers, according to traditional and modern points of view, moreover, we discuss some basic problems such as constituent structure, semantic roles, grammatical functions and the causative structure.
