- Aim: This course aims to deepen students' knowledge of Portuguese varieties, with an emphasis on the differences between Brazilian Portuguese and Portuguese of Portugal.
- Course content
- Content: The first part of the course introduces the concepts of linguistic and sociolinguistic variation. Then, the history of the Portuguese language will be presented to show the linguistic changes that gave rise to Portuguese. The last part of the course discusses the differences between the varieties of Portuguese, including Portuguese of Portugal and Brazilian Portuguese, as well as the African varieties of Portuguese. Finally, the characteristics of the Portuguese spoken in the five regions of Brazil will be presented.
