- Aim of the course: To study Portuguese literature for 3rd year undergraduate students, with the aim of complementing the readings, knowledge and reflections developed in previous semesters.
- Course content
- Course content: Based on the study and knowledge of the Portuguese literature of the eighteenth century, namely the two great currents (Romanticism and Realism) that marked the 19th century in Portugal and Europe, the aim is to reflect on the admitted failure of the cultural and socio-political project of the so-called Generation of 70, through the reading of two short stories by Eça de Queirós ("Civilização" and "A Catástrofe") and sonnets by Antero de Quental. The transition to the 20th century will also be approached, after which modernism (Orpheu and Presença) will be dealt with, focusing on the reading of Fernando Pessoa and his main heteronyms. It is also intended to put into perspective the polemics of the Portuguese neo-realist generation, especially in opposition to the presencist generation.
- Assessment method
- Evaluation: In addition to their participation and diligence during the semester, students will be assessed through an oral presentation in class and a final written assignment on a topic to be agreed upon.
