- The aim of the course is to give a general overview on the main manifestations of the lusophone cultural world Knowledge: Knows the main cultural manifestations of the Portuguese speaking world Understands the connections and the differences between each Lusophone territory Skills: Able to analyze cultural forms related to the Portuguese speaking world Able to understand the main social and political tensions and discourses that shape the cultural forms of the Lusophone nations Able to situate the Lusophone cultures in the global cultural matrix Attitude: Considers important the heritage of Portuguese language cultures Knows the importance of social, racial and sexual emancipation
- Course content
- Departing from the definition of culture and of the notion of lusofonia the course aims to present and to analyze a wide array of cultural manifestations and cultural froms related to the Portuguese speaking world. During the lectures we’ll approach diverse cultural forms such as fado, samba, carnival, football, azulejo, candomblé and modinha and the underlying political, social and ecomonic discourses.
- Assessment method
- Written exam during the exam period which consisnt of two separate parts: 1, a multiple-choice test that focuses on the subject of the lectures 2, an essay which is based on the required bibliography.
