From Sentence to Text in Spanish

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to deepen the students' knowledge of syntax through the study of the main theoretical issues of Spanish grammar, building on the courses previously taken (Spanish Morphosyntax, Morphosyntax Seminar). A) Knowledge Students are familiar with the terminology, basic research methods, methods of interpretation and theoretical problems of Spanish syntax; can give examples of syntactic differences between the cultivated linguistic norm and Spanish varieties; know the sources of information that can be used in teaching and learning Spanish, opportunities for learning, textbooks, teaching aids, ways of organizing learning, key methods, teaching and learning strategies. B) Ability Students are able to distinguish between syntactic features of Hungarian (or other languages) and Spanish; are able to use their knowledge to recognise and correctly interpret the properties of Spanish syntactic structures; are able to use Spanish fluently, correctly, confidently and appropriately in a given context; are able to use their knowledge to search for and provide answers to language pedagogical questions. C) Attitude Students strive to improve their general and professional language skills, consciously representing the communication standards of the diverse Spanish-speaking area. are commited to continuous self-education using available technologies and literature, among other tools. understand and accept the diversity of morphosyntactic phenomena that characterise the contemporary Spanish as well as the place and role of the cultivated norm in 21st century communication. D) Autonomy and responsibility Students are committed to intensive learning. perform learning-related tasks independently. take responsibility for their own work, development, achievements and failures.
Course content
Ways of representing sentence structure and theoretical background. Characteristics of the Spanish word order. Rules for the use of clitics in different varieties of Spanish. Types of relative structures with an emphatic role. Specific cases of conjunctive use. Sentence analysis exercises.
Assessment method
Short presentations, final papers, submissions: grading 1 to 5.
