- Danish 6A is an intermediate course in Danish, and is aimed at advanced Danish language learning. It focuses on understanding written texts, listening and grammar exercises and construction of texts on an intermediate level. It is a 12-14 week module with 1,5 hours of instruction each week. By the end of the course, the students will reach the level of C1 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. Knowledge: - interpret and control a wide range of isolated words and phrases dealing with advanced topics including politics, healthcare, travelling abroad, psychology, economics, work, climate and environments, literature etc. - locate information and understand main ideas in a long and complicated written text. - identify main ideas from a conversation or speech on many different topics. - demonstrate awareness of the advanced grammatical features and functions including passive voice, hypothetical sentences, almost all types of subordinate clause, lesser known regular and irregular forms of verbs, nouns and adjectives etc. Skills: - able to work in pairs or in larger groups and solve complex exercises including situation games, answering questions of a listening exercise etc. - able to explain many aspects of Danish culture and language to the wider community - establish social contact, hold a short speech, translate from and to Danish on an intermediate level etc. - construct a longer guided paragraph (around 500 words) on various topics. Attitude: - understanding intercultural and interlingual differences. - willing to take the initiative to speak and communicate in foreign language environments. Autonomy, responsibility: - take the responsibility of giving the proper information in foreign language environments - work in groups or on individual tasks about language and culture
- Course content
- - topics based on the textbook and newspaper articles: politics, healthcare, travelling abroad, psychology, economics, work, history of Danmark, climate and environments, literature etc. - intermediate grammar: passive voice, hypothetical sentences, almost all types of subordinate clause, lesser known regular and irregular forms of verbs, nouns and adjectives etc.
- Assessment method
- Student performance will be based on examinations in comprehension and usage, writing, speaking and continuous assessment. The mid-module (midtvejstest) focuses on comprehension, both reading and writing, as well as grammar, usage and vocabulary. The one single writing test and the assignments are administered during the module. Continuous assessment includes in-class and home assignments given each week.
