- The aim of the course is for the student to recognize, analyze, and appropriately apply in various situations the communication-theoretical knowledge they have acquired. a) Knowledge Is familiar with communication theories and their practical applications. Knows the main written and spoken genres of communication, their rules, and their types. b) Skills Becomes capable of interpreting and understanding the processes of linguistic communication, recognizing its purposes and tools. Applies the oral and written communication techniques they have learned. Is able to continuously develop their communication skills. c) Attitude Consciously represents the professional language norms and communication standards acquired, and authentically conveys the mindset of their profession. Considers the possibilities of approaching problems from multiple methodological perspectives. Strives for self-education and for applying the knowledge they have gained. d) Autonomy and responsibility Takes responsibility for their texts and is aware of their possible consequences. Consciously represents the methods they use in their field and accepts the methodological particularities of other disciplines. Applies the knowledge acquired in the field of communication to self-education and self-awareness.
- Course content
- Main topics of the course: The concept of communication, its theoretical background, and a review of the basic concepts learned. The foundations of successful communication. Basic pragmatic concepts. The contexts and text types of communication. Gender-based differences in communication. The characteristics of intercultural communication. Communication in everyday life. Argumentation and types of arguments. Fallacies in argumentation. Debate and the culture of debate. Disputation. From subject to topic: narrowing down the subject - logical narrowing, listing, questioning, key sentences. Collecting material: observation, memory, use of sources. Forms of written communication. Editing and writing official documents (applications, motivation letters, etc.). The process of essay writing. Creative writing exercises. Logical speech construction and effective presentation style. Mode of delivery. Speech analysis. Learning – teaching activities: Develops independent analytical skills and the ability to organize information gained and experienced from multiple sources (read in the literature, processed in groups, etc.) into a unified framework. Develops analytical and critical skills. During the practical sessions, develops communication and speech technique skills.
- Assessment method
- Evaluation is based on active participation in classroom exercises, the completion of homework assignments, and the independent elaboration of a chosen topic. Performance will be assessed on a five-point grading scale.
