- Presentation and summary of the system of language and the evolution of written language use by language level and period; reading and analysis of the most important Hungarian linguistic records.
- Course content
- Some changes of the grammatical structure. Changes of the language system and language use; connections related to language, societal and attitude changes. Origin of words and word change; the problems of form and meaning. Turning points in the history of language use. Related to these, the reading, interpretation and analysis of language records from Old Hungarian to more recent varieties of Hungarian. The most important linguistic records: Funeral oration, The lament of Mary. Introduction to the fields of historical linguistics (e.g. historical onomastics, historical sociolinguistics, historical pragmatics, and cognitive linguistic, psycholinguistic etc. approaches to historical questions).
- Assessment method
- Seminar paper, test, tasks to be completed during the semester. Five grade mark. The use of artificial intelligence is governed by Dean's Directive II/2025 (12 December). The statement on the use of artificial intelligence, which can be found in the appendix to the aforementioned directive, must be attached to the seminar paper.
