Learning outcomes
The purpose of education is primarily content-based competence development. We review the most important linguistic characteristics of official language use, then practice reading, interpreting and translation with written and heard texts. Texts that foreigners can come across (e.g. official letter, application, statement) are made by students independently. We will also discuss the issue of liability for such texts.
Course content
Grammar, lexical and textual features of official language use. Types of official text: official letter, form, application, statement, announcement, letter of formal notice etc. Practices in comprehension, interpretation, writing and translation. Use of official languages in a knowledge society.
Assessment method
seminar touch (practical course mark) The seminar is graded on a five-point scale based on seminar papers, closed-book exams, presentations, weekly homework assignments, or other work. The seminar leader will announce the requirements for completion during the first class.
