Learning outcomes
Aim of the course: To provide students with an overview of Estonian history from its beginnings to the present day. To provide knowledge about the changes that have taken place in the Estonian political system, society, economy, and culture; to introduce the most important Hungarian-language and foreign literature on the subject.
Course content
Course content: Prehistory. The 1st millennium AD and early written sources. Henrik's Livonian Chronicle, the independence wars of the 13th century and the reasons for defeat. The Teutonic Order, the Reformation and the Livonian War.  B. Russow's Chronicle and the Swedish-Polish War. The Swedish era and the Northern War. The provinces of Estonia and Livonia in the Russian Empire. The emancipation of serfs and the development of the peasantry in the early and mid-19th century. The national awakening and the various trends in the national movement. The period of Russification at the end of the 19th century. The events of 1905 and the political situation in Estonia. The road to independence and the declaration of independence. The War of Independence, the Tartu Peace Treaty, and the political system between the two world wars. The Sovietization of Estonia and World War II. Collectivization, deportation, active and passive resistance. Economic and demographic changes. The decades of the Estonian SSR. The so-called Singing Revolution and the restoration of independence. Estonia at the end of the 20th century and the beginning of the 21st century.
