- Knowledge: knows the basic concepts of Interpreting Studies; knows the most important interpreting models; knows the communicational characteristics of an interpreted event; is familiar with the history of interpreting, its typology, the interpreter’s personality traits, the concept of professional bilingualism; is familiar with the ethical principles of interpreting. Skills: employs the ethical principles of interpreting; distinguishes the various types and modes of interpreting; uses the metalanguage of interpreting. Attitude: open to professional novelties; has critical thinking skills and can critically analyze the working conditions of translators open to professional novelties and continuous professional development; boasts lifelong learning skills. Autonomy and responsibility: has the knowledge, skills, expertise and experience to act as an autonomous professional; represents the professional and ethical principles of the profession; boasts professional awareness.
- Course content
- Theory of interpreting; oral and written communication; interpreting as mediated interlingual and intercultural communication; differences between interpreting and translation; the history of interpreting; the typology of interpreting; evaluating the quality of interpreting; the interpreter’s personality, language knowledge and competence; the ethics of interpreting and protocol; the history of Interpreting Studies, its relation to Translation Studies; interpreting research and its difficulties; interpreting models.
