- Knowledge: - knows the office suites softwares, their types and use; - has extensive knowledge of the areas where the various office tools can be used, knows their strengths and drawbacks; - has IT knowledge needed for the professional use of office suite softwares used during a translation process (text editor, spreadsheet editors, database management softwares) - has extensive knowledge of the IT processes during terminology building and translation (internet search, text conversion, online communication tools, image editing) Skills: - selects and uses the office tools best suited for the translation task; - advanced user of PC software; - when translating, uses office tools, online communication tools and search engines as a professional translator. Attitude: - open to professional novelties; - open to professional and methodological developments which increase the translator’s efficiency; - adapts to the changing professional environment and working conditions; - has critical thinking skills and can critically analyse the working conditions of translators; - has a critical attitude towards professional processes and their own professional performance; - their professional activity and career are characterized by creative problem solving; - open to professional novelties and continuous professional development; - boasts lifelong learning skills. - Course content
- The aim of the course is to teach the advanced functions of office tools and other PC programs needed for the work of a professional translator. The students gain fundamental knowledge of software and build better understanding of advanced functions and tools. The course covers the practical use of the theory and also examines the expectations of the thesis. In addition to text editing and spreadsheet editing, the course includes database management and image editing among the topics.
- Assessment method
- Continuous evaluation of individual and group home assignments. The use of AI tools is governed by the Rector's Directive 4/2025 and the Dean's Directive II/2025 (XII. 12.).
