- Knowledge: - knows the online and offline tools used during terminology building; - has extensive knowledge of the various online, offline and print dictionaries; - knows the software specifically developed for terminology building and terminology management. Skills: - selects and uses the terminology tools best suited for terminology building and management - selects and uses the appropriate sources and tools for terminology building Attitude: - open to professional novelties; - open to professional and methodological developments which increase the translator’s efficiency; - adapts to the changing professional environment and working conditions; - has critical thinking skills and can critically analyse the working conditions of translators; - has a critical attitude towards professional processes and their own professional performance; - their professional activity and career are characterized by creative problem solving; - open to professional novelties and continuous professional development; - boasts lifelong learning skills. - Course content
- The aim of the course is to compare the various CAT translation and terminological online and offline tools, map their advantages and disadvantages. In the introduction the students get to know the various tools from glossary type terminological database (e.g.: external.kim.gov.hu, http://termdat.ch, http://www.sapterm.com, http://www.termiumplus.gc.ca), terminology databanks (http://iate.europa.eu) and knowledge bases (http://www.eohsterm.org, http://eurac.edu/bistro), ontologies (http://ecolexicon.ugr.es/visual/index_en.html) and social terminology forums (proz.com, www.termwiki.com). The course’s syllabus also includes the comparison of electronic dictionaries and terminological databases, the typology of data fields. The students learn to use the two most important terminological software on the Hungarian market (SDL MultiTerm and qTerm) which provides opportunity for individual and team assignments as well. The most important practical topics covered during the semester are converting glossaries with software, building new terminology databases, electronic term acquisition. At the end of the course the finished works are presented and evaluated.
- Assessment method
- Continuous evaluation of individual and group home assignment. The use of AI tools is governed by the Rector's Directive 4/2025 and the Dean's Directive II/2025 (XII. 12.).
