Learning outcomes
Knowledge: has a perfect command of the A language; has an excellent command of the B language; knows the language use and terminology of economics; knows the text types used in economics;   has a general knowledge of lexicographical and terminological tools (e.g. printed dictionaries, electronic dictionaries, terminological databases, knowledge bases, ontologies). Skills: can produce written translations; can identify text types of the given subject area, uses language and terminology correctly both in the source and target language; produces equivalent texts in both languages that respect linguistic rules, structure and language use of the given language and the terminology of the subject area; uses language rules automatically; selects and uses the correct language transfer operation and translation strategy; uses the translation technique best suited for the text type; selects and uses the language technology tool best suited for the translation task; translates texts of different genres in a precise way taking into account cultural differences.   Attitude: open to professional novelties; open to professional and methodological developments which increase the translator’s efficiency; adapts to the changing professional environment and working conditions; has critical thinking skills and can critically analyze the working conditions of translators; has a critical attitude towards professional processes and their own professional performance; their professional activity and career are characterized by creative problem solving; open to professional novelties and continuous professional development; boasts lifelong learning skills. Autonomy and responsibility: has the knowledge, skills, expertise and experience to act as an autonomous professional; represents the professional and ethical principles of the profession; boasts professional awareness; adheres to the ethical rules of the profession; treats confidential with discretion; uses documents they have access to in a responsible way.
Course content
Translation of relevant text types from B into A such as company information, product information, annual reports, minutes of business meetings, general service conditions. Interpreting specific economic expressions and terminology. Presentation, analysis of various economic text types, evaluation of translation assignments.
Assessment method
final exam (written translation) and continuous evaluation of home assignments
