- Course content
- The broader theme of the seminar will be the theory and practice of digital textualization of various lyrical folklore genres (mainly ballads). The 2024 course will focus on the digital transcription of ballads collected in the manuscript legacy of folklorist Árpád Együd in the mid-20th century, and on the production of coded transcripts from typed manuscripts suitable for computer analysis. The seminar is practice-oriented. After the compilation of a large-scale corpus of ballads, the main aim is to examine the poetics of the two genres, in particular the issues of the characteristics of verbality and literality, by comparing them with the corpus of old Hungarian literary historical songs.
