- Oktatás célja
- This course offers an introduction to the cultural heritage of marginalized social groups in the framework of “history from below”, positioned within the approaches of cultural anthropology and theories of multiculturalism, hybridity and post-colonialism. By emphasising the social sensibility of cultural heritage-professionals and the social and cultural diversity of heritage itself, the course prepares the students for the engagement toward the flowing and the mediation of cultural values between different social groups.
- Tantárgy tartalma
- The course examines the ways in which the majority society treats its ethnic, religious and gender-related heritage through various examples and case studies by putting special emphasis on the Hungarian Roma minority and analyses how those heritage practices that traditionally hadn’t formed an integral part of the national canon, may become part of the collective social memory. In the 1990s, UNESCO began to reflect on the over-representation of christian, elitist cultural practices on both tangible and intangible cultural heritage lists and in 2001, the organisation adopted the Universal Declaration on Cultural Diversity. Therefore, the course is also reviewing the changes that occured on various CH lists, due to these principles. Moreover, the seminar is also devoted to present the attempts and practices of the heritage protection of national and ethnic minorities in Hungary by looking at various public and grassroot initiatives and by analysing the patterns of institutionalisation (in both museum spaces and in other cultural spheres).
- Számonkérés és értékelés
- : Practice grade. The basic frame for evaluating student performance of the course determined by the university's code of conduct. According to this document, the instructor can determine the means of evaluation of the course depending on the nature of the field of knowledge and skills presented at the course. A practice grade usually takes the form of an evaluation based on written and/or presented works related to the student's work at a seminar individually or as a member of a student team.
