We will analyse not only the artworks, but also the concept, the installation and the design of the exhibition, the marketing communication of the institution, and the dominant values of an “art scene” or “art field”. Timetable (12/14 weeks): Introduction to modern and contemporary art & the concept of “art scene” and “art field”? Visiting a contemporary art museum Discussion, Collective reflection on the exhibition, (Methods of analysing artworks, exhibition concepts, design, communication strategies of the institution) Visiting a contemporary art gallery Discussion, reflections on the exhibition, introduction to the local contexts of the exhibition Visiting a photo museum Presentations and reflections on the presentations Visiting the street of retail galleries (2-3 galleries) Presentations and reflections on the presentations Schedule and propositions for individual museum and gallery visits & guidelines for the presentations Presentations and reflections on the presentations Presentations and reflections on the presentations Summary, feedback 14. Deadline for the essays Tasks: After the collective museum visits, students should make presentations on the exhibitions (analysing artworks/exhibition concept/design/display/online and offline museum marketing strategies). The time limit for the verbal presentations will be determined later, depending on the number of the students of the class. For the end of the semester everyone should write an essay on either one of the exhibitions or on a chosen artist and his most important artwork (or artworks).
