Oktatás célja
Short description of the goal and content of the course (one paragraph): This course offers an introduction into the participatory research applied in developmental industry and as an alternative way of visual/social anthropology called as self- or auto-ethnography, bio- or socio-documentary. Through discussing theoretical texts and case studies, students will learn about issues such as the power politics and subversion of representation; self-representation and agency; access and social position. Case studies will be based on ongoing research projects at the Department, in this time, on the research project titled “The history and current practices of Hungarian participatory film culture, with an emphasis on the self-representation of vulnerable minority groups”. Our focus will be targeted especially on participatory video (PV) as a research method applied in social sciences and developmental studies. The students of the seminar are welcome to do their own research on participatory action methods like PV, applied in their own country, and then to share their results with other members of the group. At the end of the semester our team will hopefully have a knowledge about the global participatory video-map.
