- Course Title: Communication Industry Practice: Creative Culture Primer with Industry Practice Code: TBA Credits: 4 Instructor: Ferenc Hammer, Associate Professor Location & Time: TBA Whether students in this class pursue careers as museum curators, marketing account managers, DJs, journalists, data visualizers, game designers, art communicators, podcasters, or theatre managers, they are likely to carry lessons from this course into their professional practice. The course aims to establish a meaningful connection between theory —valued in academic settings—, and industry practice —which many students are eager to experience. The course is grounded in the tension between differing perspectives on the relevance of theory and practice. Its explicit goal is to demonstrate the importance of integrating theory with professional experience in both university curricula and industry training programs. The course design serves a dual purpose: To present compelling content about the interplay of theory and practice. To provide students with hands-on internship opportunities at partner organizations within the creative industries. During the internship period (Weeks 4–9), students will work as interns, paying particular attention to how theoretical knowledge informs their practical tasks. The course concludes with a reflective component in which students analyze and present their experiences. Ultimately, students will leave with concrete takeaways—a collection of insights into how creative cultures depend on a blend of knowledge, skills, and attitudes.
