- Knowledge: Familiar with the relations between literature and media, the characteristic of intermediality and intertextuality. Able to recognize and systematise the different types of rewritten texts. Knows the common theories of intertextuality (Bachtin, Kristeva, Derrida, Genette). Skills: She/he learns interpretation techniques to further develop knowledge autonomously about literature as a philologist. Able to recognize that literary texts can’t be seen as an isolated system but has to be analysed in the context of other (pre)texts. Able to analyse thematically and formally identical or similar elements of different literary texts critical. Attitudes: Open to the comparative reception and analysis of different traditions in intermediality and intertextuality. She/he is open to the possibility of a versatile methodological approach to problems and open questions of the theories. She/he strives to continuously improve her/his acquired knowledge with autonomous thinking in the foreground. Autonomy and responsibility: Apply her/his literary and cultural knowledge in form of self-education, self-knowledge. Understands the significance of the phenomenon that texts are built from previous texts. She/he is able to handle the references, sources and acquired knowledge in order to examine intertextuality and intermediality.
- Course content
- In the course students get to know beginning with everyday intertextuality the characteristic, explains and types of the intertextuality and intermediality of literary texts. The course treats questions of Bachtin’s dialogism, Kristeva’s concept of intertextuality, which is based on absorption and transformation, the universally tendencies of Barthes, Derrida’s poststructuralism, further Genette’s systematic typology and the open questions of intertextuality and intermediality (pluralism in terminology, problem of texte general, incompatibility of synchron structuralism, ahistorical poststructuralism and diachronic text-supremacy.
