- The aim of education Knowledge Students will learn about the distinction between European Portuguese and the other varieties, the main features of the varieties and their historical background. Ability Students will be able to understand better the differences between the varieties and their evolution. They will be able to describe and explain the differences between language varieties in a more professional way. In their own essays, they will be able to give a thorough analysis of language varieties. Attitude The course aims to arouse students' interest in language varieties and their development. It will enable students to recognise the varieties of languages other than European Portuguese, and to notice their characteristics in written and spoken language. It will enable students to make a conscious observation of language varieties. It tries to make students open to language varieties. Autonomy and responsibility The interactive nature of the lesson allows students to enrich it with his/her own examples and language experiences. By acquiring linguistic knowledge, students will be able to think more confidently about language. They will be able to evaluate their language knowledge and language learning experience in terms of what they have learned.
