- Learning outcomes
- a) Knowledge: The aim of the course is to focus on language use and analyse how meaning is created in everyday interaction b) Skills: The student is able to mediate between Danish, Norwegian, Swedish and Hungarian culture in various fields of cultural, economic and political life. (S)he will be able to apply his/her knowledge of cultural phenomena in practice, to plan and carry out independent projects and research. c) Attitudes: The student takes into account the historical, cultural and social determinants of cultural phenomena, and uses his/her knowledge of the subject area in intercultural communication. d) Autonomy and responsibility: The student follows the international political, economic, social and cultural developments that have an impact on the preservation of the Scandinavian languages, culture and identity in the Nordic countries.
- Course content
- This course will investigate the basic concepts discussed in Intercultural Pragmatics 1. Students will get a better understanding what pragmatic competence, common ground, formulaic language use mean; get familiarized with the so called socio-cognitive perspective. The concepts of cultural models and interculturality are gradually introduced in the larger context of culture. The nature of politeness is considered in culture-specific terms. A pragmatic approach will be proposed in different communicative strategies.
