- Learning outcomes
- Knowledge: - knows the softwares, their types and use for the interpreter profession; - has extensive knowledge of the areas where the various technological tools can be used, knows their strengths and drawbacks; - has IT knowledge needed for the professional use of softwares used during an interpretation process (terminology and database management softwares, AI tools) - has extensive knowledge of the IT processes during terminology building and preparation for interpretation (internet search, online communication tools, terminology databases, AI tools) Skills: - selects and uses the technological tools best suited for the interpretation task; - advanced user of PC software; - when preparing for interpretation, uses tools, online communication tools, search engines and AI tools as a professional interpreter. Attitude: - open to professional novelties; - open to professional and methodological developments which increase the translator’s efficiency; - adapts to the changing professional environment and working conditions; - has critical thinking skills and can critically analyse the working conditions of translators; - has a critical attitude towards professional processes and their own professional performance; - their professional activity and career are characterized by creative problem solving; - open to professional novelties and continuous professional development; - boasts lifelong learning skills. Autonomy and responsibility: - has the knowledge, skills, expertise and experience to act as an autonomous professional; - represents the professional and ethical principles of the profession; - boasts professional awareness; - adheres to the ethical rules of the profession; - treats confidential with discretion; - uses documents they have access to in a responsible way.
- Course content
- The aim of the course is to familiarize students with technologies that support interpreting and to help them acquire the most important skills related to this. The classes will introduce software that can help students prepare for interpreting events. In addition, students will gain insight into the workings of artificial intelligence (AI) and learn how AI can be used to support interpreting. An important part of the course is learning the basics of simultaneous interpreting: participants will have the opportunity to try their hand at interpreting in an interpreting booth. In addition, students will learn about telephone and remote interpreting, as well as interpreting methods supported by e-ink tablets. The knowledge and practical experience gained during the course can provide a solid foundation for successful employment in the labor market.
- Assessment method
- Continuous evaluation of individual and group home assignments. The use of AI tools is governed by the Rector's Directive 4/2025 and the Dean's Directive II/2025 (XII. 12.).
