- Knowledge: - Knows the important film genres, their characteristics and their specificities important in translation; - have a comprehensive knowledge on the inner workings of film dramaturgy; - knowledge of the main events in film history and the work of important directors, with particular reference to the factors that can influence the translation of films. Ability to: - Ability to analyse films in terms of genre, - ability to analyse and evaluate film dubbing. Attitude: - Interested in the world of cinema; - Interested in film translation: is able to assess and evaluate the work of film translators; - has a lifelong interest in knowledge and a willingness to learn Autonomy and responsibility: - has the knowledge, skills, expertise and experience to act as an autonomous professional; - represents the professional and ethical principles of the profession; - boasts professional awareness; - adheres to the ethical rules of the profession; - treats confidential with discretion; - uses documents they have access to in a responsible way.
- Course content
- Druing the course students learn about the main features of the most important film and television genres (documentaries, comedies, dramas, horror films, crime films, etc.), with a special focus on their relevance for the translation of each genre. The discussion of genre characteristics will be complemented by film screenings. The second part of the course will involve the analysis of previously watched dubbed films, based on the genre, plot building, translation and dubbing quality, which will enable students to develop a professional awareness of audiovisual translation products.
- Assessment method
- Short tests during the semester, end-of-term paper. The use of AI tools is governed by the Rector's Directive 4/2025 and the Dean's Directive II/2025 (XII. 12.).
