Learning outcomes
Knowledge: - knowledge of the processes and actors of the dubbing industry; - is familiar with the types and characteristics of audiovisual translation modes; - is aware of the processes of dubbing, voice-over and subtitling. Ability to: - analyse the products and processes of audiovisual translation. Attitude: - open to new professional developments; - interest in the processes of audiovisual translation and the development of the profession. - critical reflection and analysis of the working conditions of audiovisual translators; - has a lifelong desire for knowledge and a willingness to learn. Autonomy and responsibility: - has the knowledge, skills, expertise and experience to act as an autonomous professional; - represents the professional and ethical principles of the profession; - boasts professional awareness; - adheres to the ethical rules of the profession; - treats confidential with discretion; - uses documents they have access to in a responsible way.
Course content
The course focuses on the theory of audiovisual translation, with an introduction that provides an overview of general audiovisual translation concepts, principles and methods. This is followed by an introduction to the three main modes of audiovisual translation (voice-over, dubbing and subtitling), and the theory of audiovisual translation processes. This is followed by a series of invited speakers from the field of dubbing with talk about the tasks of the actors involved in the work. During the course, tools and software used in audiovisual translation will also be presented.
Assessment method
End-of-term paper. The use of AI tools is governed by the Rector's Directive 4/2025 and the Dean's Directive II/2025 (XII. 12.).
