Description
Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to acquaint students with both the decisive heterogenity and pluri-centric character and the major language variants of the German language to be seen as a result of historical processes. Special emphasis is laid on the spoken and written forms and rules of the standard variant spoken in Germany today. Developing linguistic competence and language awareness is in focus for preparing students for teaching. Knowledge: Students understand the concept of heterogeneity from a contrastive perspective, and develop awareness of the constitutive features and dimensions of the language system which get shaped by both language-internal and language-external conditions. Students acquire knowledge about the major linguistic characteristics and the parameters of use of the language variants under scrutiny. Aptitudes and competences: On the basis of identifiable linguistic characteristics, students are able to use and teach particular spoken and written variants in socio-linguistically relevant contexts. Students understand and identify the historical and cultural embeddedness and the parameters of use in the praxis of particular language variants. Attitudes: The students are able to interpret the cultural, societal and functional embeddedness of the language variants and are ready to the spoken and written use of their knowledge of the dominant variants in praxis and in appropriate text-linguistics environment. Autonomy and responsibility: Students develop their own independent and coherent points of view and formulate independent opinions of the relevant topics in the teaching process. Students continuously improve their knowledge and competences with self-learning in the contexts of teaching and interaction with native German speakers alike.
