- Learning outcomes
- Knowledge: Students know the cognition and language use are inseparable entities. They know the theories, processes and components of language acquisition and language skills (understanding of the written language, understanding of the spoken language, written expression and oral expression), furthermore the possibilities of improving the linguistic errors and mistakes made in the mother tongue or in foreign languages. They know the theories of first, second and additional foreign language learning and empirical research on theoretical issues. They understand the role of individual differences in language learning (language perception, motivation, age, language anxiety, learning styles, strategies, intermediate language). Skills: Students are able to draw an analogy between their knowledge in psycholinguistics and their own language development just as the language development of the pupils. They are able to detect and correct errors and mistakes in language usage. Students are able to apply the methods and procedures learned in subject-specific and general pedagogical-psychological training, to recognise the interrelationships, connections, overlaps and mutual effects between different fields of knowledge, and to implement subject integration. Attitudes: In the learning process students seek to promote, develop and consolidate the different linguistic skills (linguistic skill diversity). They show tolerance of linguistic errors and mistakes and different language development stages. Open to the new phenomena of psycholinguistics (forms, content and combination possibilities). They strive to continuously improve their psycholinguistic knowledge. Autonomy and responsibility: Students apply their knowledge in the field of psycholinguistics in form of self-education, self-knowledge. They know about moral and linguistic-cultural difficulties in cases when it comes to switch or shift between languages and cultures, and their responsibility as patient, helping teachers.
- Course content
- Content of the course: History and interdisciplinary characteristics of psycholinguistics. Models, processes, stages of linguistic developments in the mother tongue and in foreign languages. Theories of language acquisition: L1, L2, L3, writing acquisition. Theories, types and phases of plurilingualism.
- Assessment method
- The course material will be assessed in the form of a written or oral exam during the exam period. The exam questions will be announced by the lecturer during the first lecture.
