Learning outcomes

To familiarize students with teachers’ competencies, to describe and to realize these teachers’ competencies in reading and writing skills development, interpreting the importance of the focal role of texts, recognizing the specific significance of literary texts, broadening and integrated handling of lexis and grammar, designing classes and lesson plans, and in classroom observation and critical analysis. Knowledge: students are aware of the specific attributes of reading and writing skills, they are in possession of the professional knowledge to develop language abilities, to work with texts and to design lessons. Competences: students can design and implement lessons and prepare lesson plans based on texts, they can develop their reading and writing skills systematically and deliberately. They can develop and realize their foreign language learning and using strategies, they can design topic based units, classroom materials and also to practise them in the form of microteaching sessions, to realize internal differentiation, they are able to analyse coursebooks, and reflect on classes observed previously. Attitude: students will become open to familiarize with teachers’ duties. Autonomy and responsibilities: students interpret their duties as teachers autonomously and deliberately.

Course content

Definition of language ability according to the Common Framework of Reference for European Languages and models of development, the level of language ability, the focal role of texts, the development of reading and writing skills, topics and thematic units in coursebooks, deductions drawn on classroom observation, new media in language learning.

Assessment method

Practical grade (1-5) based on the following components: - participation and active work in seminars, - homework assignments, - preparation of literature for classes, - presentation of a text-based thematic unit compiled in groups in the form of an oral presentation, - midterm exam based on the literature in the first half of the semester on the following topics: text competence, text work, literary texts in teaching German as a foreign language, text potential, text selection criteria (individual work), - a written exam in the last class of the seminar on the following: planning the steps of text work based on a given text (individual work).
